I have set up this page to provide information on the gathering. Next is the update from Cameron Richards.
This to provide the latest update with only a couple of weeks or so to go. The plans for the April 2 Evandale have now been generally organised and confirmed to help ensure an enjoyable as well as informative weekend for those coming. We have some CWA ladies coming to assist with a morning tea and the Clarendon Arms Hotel booked with flexibility if more people turn up than expected for lunch (where in 1854 all the noted citizens of the district attended KM2's retirement as District constable with a gold watch and speeches into the night, etc). We also have booked a follow-up Saturday dinner at Levee Restaurant on the Launceston Seaport area for those interested (if interested we recommend you confirm attendance to hold as places will be limited).
A senior Tas govt minister (Guy Barnett - who has regularly supported the Harry Murray statue opening and related events at Evandale and elsewhere) has agreed to open the gathering. The President of the Evandale History society Barry Lawson will say a few words about the new Memorial Plaque to both KMs being opened soon. He has also agreed to do a short Evandale/KM heritage walking tour after lunch from Clarendon Arms hotel to Fallgrove house. And the Australian rep of Clan Gregor Frank McGregor (who normally resides in Hobart) has expressed interest in attending (and saying a few words after the morning tea) if his schedule allows (TBC).
Finally, some may be interested in a Sunday 3rd April Evandale KM Family "sites of interest tour" at a few key sites in and around Evandale with Ann ( Taylor ) Batalabasi – after meeting up at the local bakeshop mid-morning (allowing time for the Evandale Sunday markets for those interested). Ann has got a confirmation from the current owner of Fallgrove House (the former KM Prosperous House) that they will open the gardens for us (am told the owner rarely allows anyone access). She also has permission to access both the remarkable Anglican and Presbyerian/United heritage-listed Churches in Evandale that the KMs and family either helped set up or supported – resulting in two family crypts after KM2 became a Presbyterian. And also one or two other sites possibly Glover cottage also in part because of the close links between the Murrays and Glovers and both KMs and the famous John Glover in particular.
I will retain this page after the gathering - I will add photographs here of those who attend the gathering.
