The Wilkinson Family
To Australia from England on the Himalaya

My great great great grandmother, Margaret Wilkinson, who married James Sandilands during 1818 in England, was the first of my Wilkinsons to come to Australia. They left England on board the Himalaya and arrived in 1842.

The following link has information about Margaret and James. Sandilands

Margaret, who was born on 1 May 1795 in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, England, died on 5 June 1863 at Templestowe, Victoria. Her parents were George Wilkinson (born about 1755 in Norton, Durham) and Ann Clarkson (born before 15 June 1755 in Silton who died in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham).

George and Ann, who married on 1 January 1788 at Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, had five children of whom my great great great grandmother, Margaret, was the second last born. Their children were Jane (1789), Mary Ann (1791), Elizabeth (1792-1866), Margaret (1795-1863) and John (born 1798).

We believe Ann's parents were Henry Clarkson born circa 1717 and died circa 1793, who was a mariner and perhaps a port pilot, and Ann Robinson born circa 1719 and died 1802. They had five children, Ann, James (1766), Joshua (1757), Thomas (1762) and Thomasin (1764).

My great great great great great grandfather, John Wilkinson (the father of George), was born about 1712 at Norton, Durham. He married Jane Wright, born 1725, at Norton, Durham, on 2 February 1747. In addition to George, who was the middle child, they had James, John, Elizabeth (who died as an infant), and Elizabeth.
